Jose de Marcois, French descendent, son of Alerico de Marcois and Josefina Gonzales. Jose de Marcois is a born French man but raised in the shores of Barcelona. Jose was born September 17, 1839 in Valence,France, at the age of 4 his family moved to Barcelona,Spain. Although his first taught speech was French he grew accustomed to speaking Spanish at the majority of his time, only with his father would he continue to practice French. His childhood was very stable, his father was a doctor in Barcelona while his mother would spend most of her time keeping her home in order. As a young man Jose would dream of a world he could travel, of visiting many marvelous places which he would read of. One specific place he always dreamed of visiting was The Dominican Republic also known as Santo Domingo, a place he would hear much about as a young boy. His father would tell him stories of how his great great grandfather was a soldier sent to the Dominican Republic while the colony was still under the Spanish crown. His great great grandfather described the island in a diary he kept on his travels, he remarked that the island was "La belleza aislada del mundo", meaning "The beauty away from the world". This inspired Jose to want to visit the island when he grew older. He graduated University with a degree in mathematics by the time he was 23 years old. He spent a year in Madrid acquiring knowledge for his doctrine degree as a mathematician and along the way he achieved a minor degree in History: the studies of the Americas. Jose never lost interest in the idea of visiting the Americas, especially The Dominican Republic. He grew fascinated with the temptation of one day hoping into a boat and sailing over to the west. By the time he was 25, Jose had grown tired of studying and decided it was time for him to live the life he wanted. In the morning of March 13, 1864 Jose de Marcois boarded a ship called "La Isabella" and sailed his way to a port in Florida, a place he had read enough about but had no idea what to expect of it.
